If you’re disappointed that Starfield doesn’t offer seamless space-to-planet travel like No Man’s Sky, there’s good news. A modder known as 105gun has introduced a mod that brings this feature to Bethesda’s sci-fi RPG. This mod, named “Slower Than Light,” can be found on NexusMods, and it’s a game-changer for PC players of Starfield.
The mod allows Starfield players on PC to control their ship’s speed using hotkeys, offering a maximum speed equivalent to “hundreds of times the speed of light.” With this, players can effortlessly traverse the cosmos, moving between planets without relying on fast travel and, crucially, without encountering any frustrating load times.
Gone are the days of navigating in-game menus to hop from one planet to another. This mod significantly accelerates space travel within the game, making it much more efficient to explore different locations. However, it’s important to note that this mod doesn’t enable planetary landings like those found in No Man’s Sky. But who knows, a mod for that might surface in the future.
Initially, after a gameplay reveal at the June 2022 Xbox-Bethesda showcase, Todd Howard revealed that Starfield wouldn’t feature seamless space travel. The primary method for reaching planets and other solar systems involved fast travel, which meant dealing with loading screens during transitions. While it was later discovered that you could fly directly to other planets, the process was rather unsatisfying and demanded a considerable amount of time and patience.
The “Slower Than Light” mod is just one of many quality-of-life enhancements that have been developed for Starfield since its release earlier this year. Other notable mods include adding a Field of View (FOV) Slider, an in-game map to prevent getting lost while exploring New Atlantis, and a complete overhaul of the inventory user interface.
