Rian Johnson has directed a new commercial for Pokémon Go. The director of the massive hit movie Knives Out and Star Wars: The Last Jedi has directed a commercial for Pokémon Go Fest which is the annual big event for the famous mobile game. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will be held virtually. Talking about his experience with the game, Johnson said:
Pokémon Go has kept me engaged with my friends remotely as I’ve been practicing physical distancing these past few months. As a longtime Pokémon trainer, it was a real pleasure working with Niantic on this spot. It was a new experience for me to direct a production remotely, and I enjoyed the highly collaborative process and think we put together a fun and upbeat commercial that fans will enjoy.
It should be noted that Johnson was located in Los Angeles, with the 30-second commercial being made in New Zealand, which means it was directed remotely.
Pokémon Go Fest will be held on July 25-26.
