Star Wars: Rogue Squadron movie production is being developed by director Patty Jenkins for Lucasfilm and it has been delayed. The movie was originally supposed to go into production in 2022, but now this is not happening.
Jenkins has been developing this film with writer Matthew Robinson for more than a year, and according to the report, she is “reportedly figuring out her future schedule which includes directing Wonder Woman 3 at Warner Bros. and Paramount’s Cleopatra.”
Jenkins said about the Star Wars: Rogue Squadron would be her next film, but obviously, that’s not the case anymore. She said at the time:
“I’m definitely doing Rogue Squadron next and I’m excited to do Wonder Woman 3. The Michael Stackpole books and the video games and all of the Rogue Squadron books, there’s an incredible history that’s really important to honor. And yet, it must be brought to a new age, because we have to tell a new story with it and so you’re trying to blend the best of everything and make it the great fighter-pilot movie, which I’ve always wanted to make, as well. It’s a big brew of things that you’re trying to put together and still try to keep a simple story.”
It was explained that the movie will not be a direct adaptation of any pre-existing narrative. This will be an original story that is inspired by the games and the books.
“You’re trying to bring the best of yourself and use it to make something beautiful that honors the legacy before you. Of course, it’s a huge amount of pressure and Wonder Woman was a huge amount of pressure, as well, so it’s not a totally new feeling to me. Definitely nerve-wracking.”
The new report makes a point of saying that Jenkins is still assigned to Rogue Squadron. With the filmmaker being so certain that this would be her next movie a few months ago.
The release date for the movie didn’t change on Dec. 22, 2023. There are two other Star Wars movies in development; one with Marvel Boss Kevin Feige, the second with Taika Waititi.
