PS Plus Extra

Sony recently unveiled its latest lineup of games for the PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers on December 19, marking the conclusion of this year’s offerings. As we bid farewell to 2023, it appears that Sony will maintain its established PS Plus pattern into January 2024 and beyond. The tradition persists with three free games on the Essential tier, while a more extensive collection of around 20 games graces the PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers.

While change may be on the horizon, there are currently no clear indicators of Sony deviating from this familiar pattern. December 2023’s PS Plus free games exemplify this consistency, featuring LEGO 2K Drive, Sable, and PowerWash Simulator—a trio that adheres to the usual three-game format. However, for those craving more variety and subscribed to the higher tiers, a generous offering of up to 19 new games awaits on PS Plus Extra and Premium.

For avid gamers on the PS Plus Premium tier, nostalgia takes center stage with titles like Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, Mega Man Legacy Collection, Mega Man Legacy Collection 2, Thrillville, and Thrillville: Off the Rails.

The lion’s share of the new selection is housed in PS Plus Extra, where the blockbuster Grand Theft Auto 5 headlines the month. Joining the roster are GigaBash, Grime, Mega Man 11, Metal: Hellsinger, Moonscars, Moto GP 23, Prodeus, Salt and Sacrifice, Shadowrun: Dragonfall – Director’s Cut, Shadowrun: Hong Kong – Extended Edition, Shadowrun Returns, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, and Tinykin.

As we anticipate the gaming landscape evolving, Sony’s commitment to delivering a diverse and enticing array of titles remains a constant source of excitement for PlayStation enthusiasts.

It seems safe to say that PS Plus Extra and Premium end the year on a high note, especially with the nostalgia jampacked into PS Plus Premium and the inclusion of GTA 5 on PS Plus Extra. The latter is especially exciting, as many fans are likely excited to delve back into the game. With Grand Theft Auto 6 confirmed to release in 2025, replays for the franchise are on the table for many hardcore fans.

However, it’s hard to say what Sony intends to bring to the table in 2024. PS Plus has had a strong year, oftentimes with the catalog of PS Plus Extra and Premium games being the crowning jewel, and it’ll be interesting to see how Sony leans into that or changes things up next year.

PS Plus subscribers get a handful of games every month.
