Paul Verhoeven, the director of RoboCop, Total Recall, Basic Instinct, and Showgirls, is making a comeback after 2016. Now, he is making a new movie which is called Benedetta and the first trailer has been released and it’s NSFW.
The movie tells the story of a nun who experiences disturbing religious and erotic visions. She also ends up having a passionate affair with a fellow nun who is committed to helping her through the visions she’s having.
Here’s the synopsis:
In the late 15th century, with plague ravaging the land, Benedetta Carlini joins the convent in Pescia, Tuscany, as a novice. Capable from an early age of performing miracles, Benedetta’s impact on life in the community is immediate and momentous.
The movie is based on the book by Judith C. Brown. The screenwriter of the movie Gerard Soeteman has distanced himself from the movie because he “is very unhappy with the director’s emphasis on the sexual aspect of the true-life story of a lesbian nun in the Renaissance.” This trailer doesn’t hold back revealing that aspect of the movie off.
The movie stars Virginie Efira, Charlotte Rampling, Daphné Patakia, and Lambert Wilson, and it will premiere at Cannes Film Festival in competition.
