Netflix’s Masters of the Universe: Revolution Reveals First Look Teaser

by William Linden

Netflix has once again wielded the power of Grayskull, offering eager fans a thrilling first look at “Masters of the Universe: Revolution.” This tantalizing teaser introduces viewers to the heroic He-Man, as well as his formidable father, King Randor, who dons an awe-inspiring suit of powerful flying armor. Their adversary in this captivating glimpse is none other than the menacing Scare-Glow. This neon-hued villain possesses the ability to grow to gigantic proportions, a formidable skill on its own, but he also undergoes a spine-tingling transformation into a spider-like form to confront our valiant heroes. This tantalizing clip was unleashed during the much-anticipated Drop 01 event, a platform where Netflix showcases its upcoming animated content.

What truly stands out in this early teaser is the commitment to keeping He-Man firmly in the spotlight. Unlike its predecessor, “Masters of the Universe: Revelation,” it seems this series will place our beloved hero at the forefront, promising an exhilarating return to his adventures.

Crafted by the visionary Kevin Smith, “Masters of the Universe: Revolution” serves as a direct sequel to the 2021 Netflix hit “Masters of the Universe: Revelation.” The 2021 series, in turn, followed the narrative continuity of the original Filmation’s “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” from 1983, effectively replacing the less successful follow-up, “The New Adventures of He-Man.” Both series proudly wear their anime-inspired animation styles, drawing from the rich tradition of Japanese anime, much like the 2002 rendition of “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.”

The inaugural season of “Masters of the Universe: Revelation” did spark some contention due to the perceived lack of He-Man screen time compared to other central characters. However, fans can take comfort in knowing that the new series sees the return of much of the original voice cast, with a few exceptions. Melissa Benoist steps in to voice Teela, taking over from Sarah Michelle Gellar. The voice of Hordak will now be provided by the legendary Keith David, and fans of the 1987 live-action “Masters of the Universe” film will delight in the return of Meg Foster, who portrayed Evil-Lyn and now lends her voice to Motherboard.

This revival of the Masters of the Universe franchise on Netflix extends beyond “Masters of the Universe: Revolution” and its precursor. In 2018, fans were treated to “She-Ra and the Princesses of Power,” a modern reboot of the sister series to He-Man’s adventures. Following “Revelation,” Netflix also rolled out the 2021 “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” CGI animated series.

While the Netflix live-action “Masters of the Universe” movie was originally planned, it regrettably met its end in late 2023. As a result, “Masters of the Universe: Revolution” will stand as the central pillar of the franchise’s future, promising thrilling adventures for fans old and new alike.

The stage is set, and anticipation is mounting. “Masters of the Universe: Revolution” is slated to make its triumphant debut on Netflix in 2024, promising to reignite the magic of Eternia for a whole new generation of viewers.
