Jada Pinkett Smith has spoken out for the first time since her husband, newly-minted Oscar winner Will Smith, slapped Chris Rock onstage during Sunday’s award ceremony.

The startling moment took place after Chris mentioned Jada’s short hairstyle, as part of a “joke” involving the movie G.I. Jane, in his presentation remarks.

Many people found the comment to be in poor taste since Jada was diagnosed with alopecia — an autoimmune disorder that causes hair loss — several years ago and recently opened up about deciding to shave her head as a result.

While Jada simply rolled her eyes at Chris’ comment, Will approached the comedian and smacked him across the face. The actor has since apologized to Chris in a statement where he called his actions “inexcusable.”

Jada broke her silence on the Oscars debacle this morning. “This is a season for healing, and I’m here for it,” she said in a caption-less post shared on Instagram.
