A former Rockstar Games developer has stirred up discussions about the potential delay of Grand Theft Auto 6, suggesting that fans should remain cautious about the game’s planned release window. Although GTA 6 is officially slated for a fall 2025 release, recent rumors have suggested a possible delay to early to mid-2026.
These concerns gained traction last week when a staff member from GTA Base claimed they had heard from multiple sources at Rockstar about a potential delay. This contradicted Rockstar and Take-Two’s previous statements, which had expressed confidence in the fall 2025 release date. Fortunately, these rumors were later debunked.
Industry insider Jason Schreier has reassured fans, noting that he hasn’t heard of any delay from his sources. However, he acknowledged that given the ambitious scope of GTA 6, a delay is still possible. Former Rockstar North technical director Obbe Vermeij supported this view with a historical comparison. Vermeij tweeted that Rockstar decided to delay GTA IV roughly four months before its original 2007 release, and hinted that a similar timeline could apply to GTA 6.
Vermeij suggested that Rockstar might not have a definitive answer on whether they’ll meet the 2025 target until around May 2025. Despite this uncertainty, he emphasized that GTA 6 is expected to be a success regardless of its release date and that Rockstar and Take-Two will only release the game when they’re completely satisfied with it.
Given the immense anticipation surrounding GTA 6, even minor rumors can become major points of speculation. While Rockstar and Take-Two have maintained that the game is on track, the possibility of a delay remains a valid consideration. Fans will have to wait for further updates, potentially including a second trailer, to get a clearer picture of the release timeline.
