Counter-Strike 2, the official sequel to Valve’s tactical team-based shooter, is highly anticipated by fans. The game is currently in early testing and is expected to release in Summer 2023. A closed beta is underway, with priority given to experienced CS:GO players who have a high trust factor and a good standing with their Steam accounts.
Excitingly, players can transfer their entire CS:GO inventory, including skins, to Counter-Strike 2. The upgraded graphics of Source 2 engine will enhance the appearance of these items.
In terms of gameplay improvements, tick rates are being fine-tuned with sub-tick updates, ensuring near-instantaneous response for movement, shooting, and throwing actions. This aims to create a fair competitive environment for all players.
Maps in Counter-Strike 2 will undergo changes categorized as Touchstone, Upgraded, or Overhauled. Touchstone maps will remain similar to their CS:GO counterparts but receive enhanced lighting. Upgraded Maps will feature improved textures and lighting without altering the layouts. Overhauled Maps are entirely rebuilt in Source 2 with additional visual upgrades.
Smoke grenades have been overhauled with new “volumetric smoke” technology, making them more dynamic and interactive. The smoke will react to lighting, gunfire, and explosions, offering tactical advantages and a better visual experience.
Counter-Strike 2 will be available for free as an upgrade to the existing free-to-play Counter-Strike. At present, it is a PC-exclusive title, with no official announcement regarding console versions.
