We’ll have to anticipate a bit longer for the return of Pandora to the silver screen. James Cameron, the maestro behind the Avatar franchise, spilled the beans on the current status of Avatar 3 in a recent chat with TV New Zealand. The film seems to be riding the waves of post-production smoothly, and Cameron assures fans that Avatar 3 is steadfastly aiming for its originally scheduled theatrical release on December 19, 2025.

“Right now, we’re knee-deep in a whirlwind of two intense years of post-production, so mark your calendars for Christmas of ’25,” Cameron confidently shared.

As for the narrative journey that Avatar 3 will embark upon, buckle up for more revelations and intrigue. The storyline extends from The Way of Water, unveiling a fresh Na’vi clan dwelling in the fiery embrace of volcanoes—the enigmatic “Ash People.” The cast, teasing the possibilities, expressed their excitement about the uncharted territories that Avatar 3 could explore.

Sam Worthington reminisced about the genesis of the saga, recalling a moment in 2015 when he and his pregnant wife were immersed in Cameron’s vivid storytelling. “It was just this story that Jim [Cameron] was kind of campfire telling me and her,” he recounted, “and I’m thinking, ‘I’m about to have a kid and about to follow this kind of adventure of a family was kind of had a weird parallel symmetry.’ I think that was very exciting that if we got the opportunity to tell the whole saga, that would be great.”

Jack Champion, who delved into the scripts of both Avatar 2 and 3, teased the depth of the narrative. “I’ve read two and three, so, I know what happens in two and three,” he shared, adding that the table read for the movies spanned two whole days.

Now, what about the elusive Avatar 4? Initially, the announcement buzzed about a total of five sequels, and Cameron has dropped hints about an abundance of footage shot for the anticipated Avatar 4. While the plot remains shrouded in mystery, Cameron shared a glimpse into the studio’s reaction. “I can’t tell you the details, but all I can say is that when I turned in the script for 2, the studio gave me three pages of notes,” he revealed. “And when I turned in the script for 3, they gave me a page of notes, so I was getting better. When I turned in the script for 4, the studio executive, creative executive over the films wrote me an email that said, ‘Holy f-ck.’ And I said, ‘Well, where are the notes?’ And she said, ‘Those are the notes.’ Because it kind of goes nuts in a good way, right?” The intrigue deepens as the Avatar saga unfolds with promises of cinematic brilliance.
