IFC Films has revealed a new trailer for the wild indie dark comedy Mainstream. The movie stars Andrew Garfield as a character who becomes one of those annoying social media personalities. The new film also stars Maya Hawke, who helps get him there. This is one of those social media cautionary tales that points to the dark side of being a celebrity becomes viral.
The movie was directed by Gia Coppola (Palo Alto), granddaughter of Francis Ford Coppola. The film also stars Nat Wolff, Kalena Yiaueki, Johnny Knoxville, and Jason Schwartzman.
A young woman (Maya Hawke) thinks she’s found a path to internet stardom when she starts making YouTube videos with a charismatic stranger (Andrew Garfield) – until the dark side of viral celebrity threatens to ruin them both.
Mainstream will be released in select theaters and on VOD starting May 7th.
